We often hear the question, "What is the difference between panelized home construction and Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)? Both building products are manufactured in a controlled environment and offer a great energy efficient prefabricated home product that are assembled in structural wall and roof panel sections. Both home systems can be assembled in half the time of a stick frame home, however, they do have their differences, read below:
Panelized roof panel features exposed inside wall.
Panelized Homes:
Our eSIPS panelized home system is similar to structural insulated panels with a couple major exceptions: We leave the inside wall open or "exposed" so that mechanicals can be easily installed, and second, our panelized home system utilizes dimensional framing lumber to build the wall and roof panels and the foam infill features a closed cell spray foam insulation that incorporates renewable ingredients.
Panelized homes are more comparable to a stick frame home, however, the panels allow for much quicker installation and the panels come pre-insulated. The eSIPS panelized building system is a great alternative building method to SIPs as well as stick frame construction.
SIPs with solid foam core "sandwiched" between two pieces of OSB.
Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs):
Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are one of the most convenient and energy efficient forms of insulation available to the building market today. This type of structural panel system is high-performance with generous R-values for the wall and roof panels.
Typical SIPs systems consist of a solid foam core "sandwiched" between two pieces of oriented strand board (OSB). SIPs are often used for residential construction and some light commercial construction. SIPs are often used to insulate and shell timber frame homes.
Our Energy Smart Insulated Panel Systems (eSIPS) are manufactured here at our plant in Claremont, NH to a maximum 9' high and 36' long which allows the panel wall system to be installed quicker. With our prefab building system, you will save you time and money when you build your new home.
